It was one of the most celebrated Princely States in the India of the 18th and 19th century. Traveling from New Delhi, India’s Capital, its about 160 miles and takes approximately 3 hours in a car-ride that provides a holistic experience of what is to be revealed with every passing inch. Beautifully hand-painted doorways, perfectly painted motifs running along the external walls of thatch huts and small, hospitable homes, camel-led cartloads of sugarcane or other fresh produce, flowing, swirling long skirts on statuesque, striding women, gorgeous, chunky layers of tribal jewelry, including stacked anklets, arm-bands and necklaces with pendants. Proud, gloriously colorful, turbaned-heads..and then the Gates appear!
